We have neglected the allotment this week, what with working full time, two kids and the Great British summer weather, we just haven’t been for a week.
The weather has been rain every day and every evening. Neither me or Phil felt like heading down the plot after work in the rain, there was no need to water the plants after all.
However maybe we should have visited just to pick some courgettes…
Even the smallest courgette in the photo is bigger than the courgettes you buy in the supermarket, so you can imagine how big they are. We only picked some a week ago and the ones left on the plants where smaller than my hand, so in a week they have grown humongous, they just seem to love all the rain we have been having.
So we now have loads of Courgettes to use up, and need to pick them every few days to stop them going this big, so we will have even more in a few days. Any recipes anyone can share? Or put a link in the comments?
I dug up some more potatoes too, and even these are much bigger then the last lot we dug up.
So the lesson learnt this week is we need to go the allotment even if it’s raining and been raining all day, just to keep the courgettes from getting too big.
We had a good crop last year I had to have made this zucchini bread recipe at least a dozen times last summer. I think every neighbor and every family member that stopped by got at least one loaf. http://www.julieseatsandtreats.com/zucchini-bread/ Also, I learned people are much more willing to take zucchini off your hands if you’ve already baked it into a loaf of bread!

Being faced with a similar issue last year we stumbled across an amazing recipe for vegan courgette brownies, not being vegan we added extra chocolate chips but they were delicious! Worth a try if you run out of savoury suggestions!

That made me laugh. Our plot is a little neglected right now as the weather isn’t on our side. Hope you’ve got some exciting courgette recipes up your sleeve.

Zucchini is popular with us. Cut length wise, brushed with olive oil, seasoned with coarse ground pepper…then grilled and the last few minutes topped with whatever grated cheese we have and voila! It’s a great side.

You are so lucky. I’ve had one courgette so far, everything is so slow due to the wet, cold and miserable weather. Fortunately our potatoes are cropping well. Fingers crossed the weather will pick up . xxx

If a couple get away tell everyone that you were actually growing marrows?
BTW… Stuffing a marrow with mince and onions is REALLY nice! B-)
